Luggage
Luggage is considered to be only the clothing, items, and personal effects necessary for the passenger’s use, comfort, and convenience on their trip. Luggage may also include work tools or items related to the passenger’s trade or profession, provided their quantity is reasonable and they are not intended for third parties.
Carry-on luggage
Carry-on luggage includes the other items the passenger carries on the plane under his or her control in the passenger cabin. Any damage or loss of this luggage will be the sole responsibility of the passenger.
Checked luggage
Checked luggage is luggage turned over to MX in exchange for a luggage ticket or receipt.
02.- How is luggage measured?

Depending on the route, luggage is measured in two ways: by weight and by piece.
How can I know whether my luggage will be measured by weight or by piece?
Luggage is measured by piece for all domestic (within Mexico)and international flights operated by Mexicana Group, MexicanaClick and MexicanaLink.

05.- Items allowed in place of one piece of luggage

The following items may be considered part of the free luggage allowance in place of one piece of checked luggage, whose linear dimensions do not exceed 55 in. (1.40 m).
They will be accepted if packed appropriately.
Applies to both the luggage allowances by weight and by piece.
- Sleeping bag.
- Backpack or military duffel or backpack.
- Duffel bag, B-4 bag.
- Bowling equipment.
- Any musical instrument not exceeding 1.00 m (39 in.).
- Skiing equipment consisting of one pair of snow skis, one set of poles, and one pair of boots.
- Golf equipment.
- Fishing equipment including no more than two poles, one reel, one pair of waders, and one tackle box.
- Hunting equipment: Sports firearms case including one rifle case with no more than two rifles, 2.25 kg (5 lbs) of ammunition, silencers, and small tools for the rifle, or no more than two shotgun cases, two shotguns, and 4.5 kg (10 lbs) of ammunition.
When the free luggage allowance is exceeded, excess luggage will be charged accordingly.

07.- Items subject to transport restrictions

For carry-on luggage to be taken inside the passenger cabin, products such as: bottled or canned beverages, shampoo, hair gel or spray, lotions, toothpaste, suntan lotion, liquid cosmetics, creams, aerosols, or any substance or product with a similar consistency, contained in packages of up to 100 ml (3.4 oz), must be packed in a transparent plastic bag with a capacity of up to one quart (1 liter) or (8 X 7.5 in.).
In addition to those mentioned above, items that may be taken in carry-on luggage include: baby formula or mother’s milk, juices for babies, only if the infants are traveling; liquids, gels, and aerosols purchased in the secure area; prescription medications, as well as insulin and other over-the-counter medications not exceeding 100 ml (3.4 oz.) per container, including saline solution and eye care products; liquids, gels or aerosols for diabetics who document their medical condition, in quantities not exceeding 100 ml (3.4oz.); solid cosmetics and personal hygiene items such as lipstick, solid deodorant, and other similar solids. Items purchased in duty free shops may also be carried on board; they must be delivered to the passengers at the gate of the aircraft.
For connecting flights from the United States or Canada to other destinations, the items purchased in duty free must be placed in the checked luggage in order to prevent them from being seized at the security checkpoints for the connection.
According to the provisions of the United States Department of Transportation, the transport of loose lithium batteries is not permitted in checked luggage on any flights to, from, or connecting in the United States. These batteries may only be transported in carry-on luggage, provided they are in their original packaging. For more details on this regulation, please see the US government website. |
08.- Prohibited Items
.
What items are prohibited?
Certain items, indicated below, must NOT be transported in your luggage.
- Fireworks : Flares, fireworks, and other explosives.
- Flammable liquids or gases : Fuels, paints, lighter fluid, solvents.
- Household items : Drain cleaners, bleaches, peroxides.
- Compressed gases : spray cans, butane, scuba tanks, propane tanks, oxygen tanks, self-inflating equipment.
- Weapons : Firearms, ammunition, gun powder, tear gas or pepper spray, knives, screwdrivers, and any other item that can be used as a weapon.
- Other hazardous materials : Dry ice, gasoline-powered tools, batteries, camping equipment with fuels, radioactive materials (including radioactive pharmaceuticals), poisons, and infectious substances.
Exceptions:
- Personal hygiene items containing hazardous materials (for example: perfumes, aerosols). The content of each container may not exceed 100 ml (3.4 ounces).
- Matches and lighters may only be carried on your person. Butane gas lighters are permitted. However, “strike-anywhere” matches and rechargeable lighters with flammable liquids are prohibited.
- Firearms and ammunition may not be carried on board. However, unloaded firearms may be checked and transported if declared to the airline at check-in and packed in a secure container.
- Dry ice may be carried on board only to preserve perishable items, up to a maximum of 2 kilograms (4 pounds). The package must be vented.
Electric wheelchairs must be transported in accordance with airline requirements. The battery must be disconnected.
09.- Luggage requiring an additional seat for transpotation.

There are some special cases when luggage requires additional arrangements to be transported. These cases will be handled based on the following:

10.- General policies
.
- A maximum of 5 pieces of luggage with a total weight of up to 115 kg are permitted as excess luggage. Any excess luggage exceeding these limits must be handled as air cargo.
- The sum of the dimensions (length + width + height) of each piece of luggage must not exceed 1.58 m (62 inches) and it may not weigh more than 45 kg (99 pounds). Any excess shall be shipped through air cargo.

- On connecting flights, the excess luggage charge shall apply for the entire route (origin – final destination)
One piece of carry-on luggage may be carried on board. The sum of its dimensions must not exceed 1.15 m (45 inches) and it may not weigh more than 10 kg (22 pounds). In addition, one personal item is permitted, which may be a briefcase, purse, laptop, or backpack.
